Now and then

So this is what I look like now, just the thing on a hot day.

And this is how it was then (in 1942), colder I should think,
but similar bathing gear.
Bikinis came in the 1960s and no I’m not going to show & tell!

Historic Stamps

This stunning card arrived today from a postcrosser in the Czech Republic.
The message on the card says “ So here are stamps of a country that doesn’t exist anymore!”
I just LOVE this card, certainly one of my favorites.

Oasis

My little bit of green in a dry sandy back yard. Parsley, sage, rosemary and no thyme. Wilting rocket, bolting lettuce, basil growing well. Under the fig tree put in 6 months ago.

PARTY!!!

“Do you think Barbie will mind if we go to her 50th birthday party like this?”
“Well at least one of us looks decent.”

Bargains

My op-shop buys. Glass teapot (new), blue glass jug, glass vase, two silvery glass dishes, red velvet jewelry box, small wooden box and a 3 legged frog. I had change from $20, now all I have to do is find somewhere to put everything. This is because I borrowed a book from the library called ‘Home Cheap Home’!! May have to go back and buy a few more things.

Yanchep, Two Rocks Fire

24 hours later & the volunteer fire brigades are still keeping a close watch. Many of them camped out in the park just down the road, a helicopter landing place was set up at Two Rocks. People & homes owe so much to these men & women. At least 8000 hectares of National Park has been burnt, goodness only knows how many animals have suffered. The park is closed until further notice. Fire fighters are also in Kings Park, Perth.

Fire not cloud!

Very hot weather today 41/42deg in the shade, 10deg less indoors.

On my way to Two Rocks this morning I saw that there was a fire so I went back home. I didn’t want to get caught up in the drama. By 10.30 the smoke was blotting out the sun. These photos were taken from the back yard.

Damper, made before the temperature reached 38deg! This time I put in dried tomatoes, garlic & Dijon mustard. Very tasty.

Strange cloud formation

8.30 this morning, I just missed a good shot with the moon
behind the clouds. Should have got up a bit earlier!

Hold Tight...........

Sad to hear that Dave (Harman) Dee died of cancer on 9th January. The group used to come into a chocolate shop I managed in Salisbury, Wiltshire. They would crown around the radiator in the winter. Dave was partial to chocolate and would love to try all the new flavors.

Just hanging around

Ebony relaxing just where I put my feet when watching TV.
Today I came across a new word ' discombobulated' = disturb (N. Amer slang)
Found in 'Sun at Midnight' by Rosie Thomas not as good as 'White' but interesting to read in hot weather - go read!

First dip of 2009

Yes, it's another view of Yanchep Lagoon!! Each day is different,
today a few Dads are having a day off and dipping their children
into the ocean.
