Fun and Games at Nic's birthday party

In spite of the wet in Queensland they all had a ball at Nic's 40th.

Ebony relaxing in front of some of my postcards.

Weather report? Good, average has been 33, strong winds and high tides. No rain for ages and yet Queensland is getting so much (at last).

What am I reading? Started with ‘The Gathering’ found it tough going and half way through I stopped, then I started a lightweight novel, read that – easy reading – family story. Then I picked up ‘The Gathering’ again and began to enjoy it. Now reading ‘A Round-Heeled Woman’ by Jane Juska, a Yanchep book club choice.

Postcards have been sent to Russia, Germany, China, Finland x 2 and USA x 2. Waiting for the postman to fill my mailbox.

John Harvey and Emily Beck c. 1898

Things have happened in the last couple of weeks. The Other Place in Two Rocks no longer has our art work; we decided to take it all out.

The weather has been rather hot, mid to high 30s, the swimming has been great & there has been a sea breeze most days.

My garden is looking very neglected – weeds everywhere.

I have been contacted by a couple of people regarding the Beck family of Northolt, even a photo of John Harvey & Emily Beck (nee Samuel) taken between late 1897 & mid 1898 when J.H was manager of The Star & Garter, St. Martins Lane, Strand, London. I now know that Emily was born in Disserth, Radnorshire, Wales. Family history is a never ending, time consuming addiction!

Books

Finished reading ‘Solo’ by Emily Barr last week, now on the last few pages of ‘plan B’ another Emily Barr, both very enjoyable. Next one to read is ‘The Gathering’ by Anne Enright – recommended by Christine.

A very fishy postcard.

It's about time I made some more postcards to send all over the world. I have just sent my 200th official postcrossing card. Now I have over 1000 used Australian stamps I can get sticking. Being a member of postcrossing.com has kept me very busy over the last two years.

Low tide at Yanchep Lagoon

Busy last few days, quite a number of people through The Other Place Gallery at Two Rocks.
Sold 'Bird Call' by Glen Hughes.
Swimming at Yanchep this morning was terrific, low tide and the reef exposed.

Hot night, no sea breeze! A fair few people on the beach this morning.

Wednesday, January 02, 2008

Stinking hot today (37.4) & I had to drive to Joondalup in an unairconditioned car! 40 tomorrow – think I’ll stay in front of the fan all day, after my swim. Nice easy day of lying around reading. At the moment I am reading ‘Remember Me’ by Liz Byrski, just one of the Christmas presents from Sam.

Swimming today, the first of 2008, was not so good, lot of seaweed & a bit murky. Must have something to do with the cyclone up north. Couldn’t take photo as the flies were atrocious!!

Printed out ‘Elevated Forms 2’, just have to get it framed now & then delivered.

Sunset 31st December 2007

New Years Eve. As well as not sending any Christmas cards I didn’t send any for 2008! Days go by so quickly & there is always plenty to do. Sun down over the dunes.

Played around with an image for the Vasse Art Exhibition. Looking good.

29th December 2007

Sunday Sam came up & I had the last of my wonderful Christmas presents, everything I asked for.

29th December 2007

Back to The Other Place on Thursday 13 people wandered in but didn’t buy any art! About the same on Friday. The wind has swung around to the southwest bringing in cooler weather, thank goodness. Swimming in the lagoon was a bit difficult as the tide was coming over the reef & there was a strong current.
