Shadow Shot Sunday #93

This shot was taken last Thursday, a very weird morning at Yanchep Lagoon. At one point the Lagoon became almost empty but by the time I had grabbed the camera the sea had rushed back in & was left with a whirlpool. It was a bit like swimming in a washing machine & after being dumped a couple of times, I just stayed on the beach.

To see more 'Shadows' go here.

Talking 'bout Books

It's bloody hot again & it was bloody hot yesterday. But that didn't stop people attending the launch of 'Standfast & other tales'. by Barbara Yates Rothwell. See her web page here.

On Friday, also bloody hot, I was given a bag of books by one of the girls at the Library, I will read them then pass them on. Interesting mix!!

About the heat....
Ebony seems to think that hiding in the shade of a wooden cabinet could be a cool thing to do.

While I am flopping around with a wet sun hat straight out of the fridge. Yes inside the house where it is 31.7degrees.....

Talking 'bout Books

At last I've finished ' Oscar and Lucinda' - I was almost enjoying the read, excellent descriptive writing, when the plot began to get very silly and the last few pages seemed to wander around all over the place. I'm glad I got through it (took much longer than I thought) and it will be good to hear what the other book club people think.
Now to something very much easier to read, more in my comfort zone, 'The Day of the Storm' by Rosamunde Pilcher. Written in 1975 cruising around Putney, Fulham & Cornwall.
Tomorrow I am going to Wanneroo History Centre to do some more research on my family plus some for other people. Time now to have roast chicken, potatoes, carrots, onions and pumpkin.

The Wednesday What's It

A photo of an amazing package which arrived from Pat for the Crazy Paper Swap organised by Lawendula at Woven Letters - mine had two stones wrapped up among all the ephemera.

At the Lagoon this morning a man in a suit was 'washed up'........

............ turns out it was a crew from Uni making a 'Greenaway' type short film.

Click on all photos to enlarge. Middle one very fuzzy for some reason!

Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him

A super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis!

Thanks Sam.

Plotting for a Food Garden week 20

Rocket seems to have taken off, hope this lot survive.
Planted some Lettuce & Rocket seedlings from Bunnings - really not sure why I bother!

This week I was given some fresh figs, new potatoes, young carrots, tiny tomatoes & peanut biscuits. What did I barter with? Not fresh fruit & veg that's for sure, just a bit of help with computer stuff. Now I'm off to make some potato salad (at least I have parsley & garlic chives).

News flash

Police investigating a double homicide in the Perth suburb of Morley have confirmed the victims and the suspect arrested earlier today are Indian students.

The suspect taken into custody for questioning about the murder of two brothers in Morley this morning was found hiding in bush near Two Rocks, north of Perth.

I was shopping in Two Rocks this morning, as I do every Friday.

Talking 'bout Books

Finished reading 'Suite Francaise' a couple of days ago. Not as good as I was led to believe. I just couldn't get involved with the story line at all, in fact I found Appendix 1 & 2 much more interesting.
Now it is on to 'Oscar & Lucinda' by Peter Cary, a bookclub choice so I have 'till 23rd February to read 507 pages of my 20cent copy!

Think I could turn this image into a 'WORK of ART', Taken on the edge of the Lagoon this morning. Should have picked out the piece of plastic before taking photo. You all know to click on the picture to make it bigger (I will not use that word from the Simpsons).

Plotting for a Food Garden week 19

The last drop of rain received on the 20th of November last year.

Having pulled up all bitter & twisted greens I decided to scatter some more seed on Wednesday. So mixed lettuce, endive, red giant mustard, mizuna, mustard & cress (that's them below 3 days later)

Today I threw some rocket seed where the tomatoes were. Need to get some seedlings in soon. Come on RAIN. Just a bit- tonight would be good!

Skywatch Season 4 Episode 30

No swimming for me in the last few days, the sky says it all - strong winds = rough sea.

This morning the wind had dropped, the water in the Lagoon was clear, calm & somewhat cool. A boat from the Dept of Planning & Infrastructure actually came into the Lagoon, doing some sort of survey. I couldn't take a photo as I was swimming. Then the boat went outside the reef & I was out of the water. Wonder what 'P&I' are up to now!!!
They better not mess with our Lagoon.

Go to SkyWatch Friday and find skies from all over the world. You can join in. Thanks must go to Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy, Louise and Sylvia for hosting this meme!

The Wednesday Whot's It

First - in my letter box today, a package from Andrea & Beanie Mouse at Found Art.

Second - a fine figure of a man.

Third - much wasting of rate payers money over the controversial 'Sky Bridge'.

As it was being erected. "March 19th 2009 Protect the Dunes? By putting what looks like a steel mono rail across them? What a joke!! There was supposed to be a boardwalk (oxford dictionary: 1.a wooden walkway across sands, marsh etc 2. a promenade along a beach) not this monstrosity. Seen at the end of Foreshore Vista in Yanchep. Some vista."

Views from road and boardwalk.

And now a survey to see what people want to do with this structure! Not this, that's for sure. It is illegel, dangerous & visualy a blot on the landscape.
I think what we wanted in the first place was something more like this on the Sunshine Coast.
