Chris Chataway & Chris Brasher think it was in 1954,  Roger Bannister is not sure. I wrote to them in 1999 & they all replied giving different recollections of the event!

Potatoes are growing well & I’ve just put seeds of Lettuce in, but will I be around to reap the harvest? The house I am renting is to be sold. Anyone out there want to invest in a nice little 2x1 house with sitting tenant? I didn’t think this would happen – not yet anyway, I've made this my home for the last four years! If I have to move this will be the 29^th – but I must think positive – at the moment I just feel a bit numb. 

Oh, well tomorrow is another day, I’ll do a Scarlett “I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow.”

Sat in my car yesterday enjoying the above.
My car (parked in the driveway in the sun) was 12deg warmer than the house! So I had my lunch, read & had afternoon tea there.
