Books

I've been watching 'Outlander' on Foxtel & dug out all the books by Diana Gabaldon - think I shall sell them. All paperbacks & some in a bad condition. I enjoyed them but think it's time to let go!!

Talking 'bout Books in November once more.

In the stack of books delivered last week I first picked 'A Year in Provence' 197 pleasant pages.

Next was 'The Pursuit of Happiness'  I thought the first 500 pages were excellent but then I found it dragged a bit, by the time it got to the last page (646) I was glad to put it down.

Now it's on to 'White Teeth' & as I am feeling better it may take me longer to read (not so much laying around!).

Art at Yanchep

There will be a bit of a buzz around Yanchep on Sunday October 16th. Coinciding with the auction of the Telethon Home in Hopbush Lane is an Art & Craft Fair at Zamia Park. Across the road at Capricorn House there is a selection of art by
Glen Hughes & Angie Beck
From 10am until 4.30pm you are invited to drop in & have a look, meet with Angie & pick up a free postcard of Yanchep Lagoon.
Barbara Yates Rothwell will also be there signing her books from 10 until midday.

Talking 'bout Books in September, again.

This is a book I really liked a lot. So much more interesting than these two.
Glitz by Louise Bagshaw (bad reviews on line)  & Miss O'Dell by Chris O'Dell with Katherine Ketcham (better reviews) which were ......... (in my opinion) .........CRAP.....
So now on to The White Queen by Philippa Gregory.

Talking 'bout Books in September

Next lot of books to read.
Haven't had much time this week - still reading 'Once Upon a Hill' by Glenn Patterson (very interesting Irish history), still dipping into 'Blogging for Dummies' (watch this space!) & haven't started 'Miss O'Dell' - see last weeks post.
'Walk the Lines' by Mark Mason recommended by Fresh Eyes on London (more London facts than you could shake an A to Z at!), 'Miss Savidge Moves Her House' told her house was to be demolished to make way for a bypass, she had other ideas & dismantled it & moved it to Norfolk - she was 60! The other book to dip into is 'Superfoods' (got to get fit!).

Talking 'bout Books in August, again.

Picked up yesterday - from the library, 'Fast, Fun & easy Fabric Postcards', 'Blogging for Dummies', 'Miss O'Dell', 'Holfords Liver Detox', 'Once upon a Hill' & from the Op Shop ' The Reef' by Di Morrissey & 'Hazel's Journey'.
'Once upon a Hill' is proving to be very interesting if anyone is into family history (especially Ireland).

Talking 'bout Books in August

Broken Lives is a Book Club book, it is about a West Oz guy who went on a killing spree (not exactly a bedtime story!) I'm half way through but will have to find time during the day to finish it! Last night I began My Bonnie (about dementia). The Messenger will have to wait a bit & the other books are for dipping into.

Looking at Books

Finished reading 'Tapestry' at the W/E and started this Mary Wesley book on Monday.
Enjoyed both. Any suggestions on what to read next?

A play on words.

The road to Yanchep Lagoon. Going slowly round the bend!
I have just finished reading 'Still Alice' by Lisa Genova (read a review here). Also reading 'the school of essential ingredients' by Erica Bauermeister & found a reference to 'Lucca' in Italy (just had an email from a friend who has acquired a flat there!)

Talking 'bout Books & Shadow Shot Sunday #121

Surprise! A lavender & an orange gazania have decided to grow in a crack in the paving & makes for a good shadow.

I found 'The Bone Garden' a gruesome but interesting read. Then it was 'A Family Affair' by Caro Peacock - a novel about a Victorian lady detective, set in London & Buckinghamshire. 17 pages to go, very light reading, just what I need at the moment. Might even see if I can get other books written by her.

Talking 'bout Books & Shadow Shot Sunday #119

Bedtime reading? I hope it's not going to be too gruesome!

Talking ‘bout BOOKS

Finished reading 'The Forgotten Garden', an enjoyable book by Kate Morton. Nice easy read you just want to curl up with, especially when you're not feeling the best.
Not so the book I'm reading at the moment, 'Dark Places' by Kate Grenville, although I must say she depicts the main character extremely well. A despicable lump of human flesh, very sad really.
I spent most of the weekend making a list of books I still own, see LibraryThing, as well as a list of some of the books I have read. See here

Talking ‘bout BOOKS

Not much to talk about really! A couple of very light reads.I have been laid up most of last week so reading was the thing I enjoyed most.
Finished reading Relative Love & agree with Caroline see Books at Whats happening....
Have just started The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. Apart from jumping from 1913 to 2005 & 1976 & back again (every chapter) I am enjoying it very much.

For anyone wanting to get 'serious' books to read go to a 'blog of note' Critical Masses.

Talking ‘bout BOOKS

The next Book Club choice - not too sure if it's going to be a book I can read last thing at night. May have to find an 'easy' read.

Talking ‘bout BOOKS

At the moment I’m reading ‘Relative Love’ by Amanda Brookfield, 534 pages (have read 179 pages). English family novel (I had to do a family tree!) enjoyable so far.

Jane Fonda ‘My Life So Far’ 579 pages not including preface, contents, filmography, acknowledgments, index, credits & permissions, about the author & about the type. I’m up to page 123. One chapter at a time, between novels for now.

Last week I finished ‘Flying Under Bridges’ by Sandi Toksvig, very strange little book, weird but witty.

Then there was ‘The Beach House’ by Jane Green, book club for May. The kind of book which doesn’t tax the brain, comfortable light reading.

I have now ordered from the library ‘Dark Places’ by Kate Grenville, the next book club choice.

Last but not least is ‘Behind the Scenes at the Museum’ the June Book-It List Book Group. Go visit. I did have this book but it went on its way with book-crossing. Looking forward to reading it again

All this will keep me going for a while.

Unusual book!

Just finished this novel (on loan from Sam). Thoroughly enjoyed the many chuckles, another good read.
