Talking ‘bout BOOKS
‘Dark Places’ by Kate Grenville was chewed, digested and spat out by me last Thursday.
Back cover quote – ‘Kate Grenville has written a disturbing, shocking and darkly funny novel that resonates in the mind with the truth of great writing. Dark Places is a literary triumph’.
Disturbing? Yes. Shocking? Yes. Darkly funny? Dark, yes, funny, no.
Great writing and literary triumph ? Possibly.
Albion Gidley Singer - a despicable lump of human flesh.
I suppose most of us women have come across men like this, a real gentleman on the outside but not worry about a grope or more in the stockroom or back office. I know I have. Hopefully they never sank to the depths Albion Gidley Singer did.
I like to read books for enjoyment and I didn’t enjoy this one little bit although I must say I will not forget reading it (which is more than I can say for some of the books on my list!).
On to the next book – ‘Grasshopper’ by Barbara Vine (aka Ruth Rendell, I have never even wanted to read a Ruth Rendell book so I was very surprised to find this out!).
Picked up from the library on Friday, on reading the back cover and finding out the novel is set in Maida Vale, London. Very grasshopper like in the way it is written, jumping all over place and time. Intriguing.
More next Sunday.

True Colours Thursday - MAROON
Not sure if beetroot is exactly what you would call maroon but near enough I think. These little beauties and the baby carrots came from a place called paradise not far away.
Go here to see more maroon things

Talking ‘bout BOOKS
Finished reading 'The Forgotten Garden', an enjoyable book by Kate Morton. Nice easy read you just want to curl up with, especially when you're not feeling the best.
Not so the book I'm reading at the moment, 'Dark Places' by Kate Grenville, although I must say she depicts the main character extremely well. A despicable lump of human flesh, very sad really.
I spent most of the weekend making a list of books I still own, see LibraryThing, as well as a list of some of the books I have read. See here

Talking ‘bout BOOKS
Not much to talk about really! A couple of very light reads.I have been laid up most of last week so reading was the thing I enjoyed most.
Finished reading Relative Love & agree with Caroline see Books at Whats happening....
Have just started The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. Apart from jumping from 1913 to 2005 & 1976 & back again (every chapter) I am enjoying it very much.
For anyone wanting to get 'serious' books to read go to a 'blog of note' Critical Masses.
