Stitching New Life into Old Cloth - Workshop
Fabric of meaning, fabric of memories, well worn treasured fabric.
I spent most of the day ripping up old pairs of Jeans in preparation for a large shoulder bag.
Others were busy doing their own thing
Wendy Lugg, who has been running a series of 'Fabric of Life' workshops at Wanneroo, was most inspiring and showed us many pre-loved items as well as some very interesting books

Talking 'bout Books in October, again
The latest book from Liz, enjoyable. Very interesting characters, mainly older women (so it's not exactly 'Chick Lit').

Mellow Yellow Monday #143
Shot taken yesterday in 34deg heat with a strong wind blowing. So strong that at the Art & Craft fair in front of the Telethon Auction two tents blew over & they had to pack up. The Telethon House sold for $560,000 & a record total of $13,473,159 was raised overall for Telethon.
There was also a large fire at Gingin.

Talking 'bout Books in October, again
'A Respectable Trade' Bristol, England in 1787.
"The great roar & sweep of history is successfully braided into an intimate daily detail of this compelling & inteligent book" Penny Perrick, The Times.
"Beautiful, painfull, devasting, heart rending..." Peter Fryer.
My Poole family lived in Bristol in the early 1800s - I do so hope George was not transporting slaves. He died on Santa Domingo, West Indies in 1870.
Did I find the book interesting? Yes, I agree with the reviewers. The maps behind the book help me trace where the family lived.

RIP Two more young men die
Police are calling for witnesses to a crash between two trail bikes that killed two young men on Sunday night. Up to ten friends had been riding their bikes off-road from Two Rocks to the Yanchep Pine Forrest. Some of them then decided to continue riding after dark, the 18 and 20 year old men were riding on Old Yanchep Road when they were killed. They were riding unlicensed bikes without headlights on a single carriageway road when they collided head-on.
When will they ever learn - so dreadful for their families.

Talking 'bout Books in October
I seem to be on a historic reading trip, having enjoyed Phillipa Gregorys 'Red Queen' & 'White Queen' I am now looking forward to reading her 'A Respectable Trade'. My G,G, Grandfather was a Master Mariner in Bristol. Also from the library I picked up the new 'Playaway - all in one audiobook. Right now I am half way through reading 'The Reef' by Di Morrissey.

Beck Family in 1911
No servants in this family. My grandmother was just a little woman but had 9 children (3 died) & John Edwin died 2 years later in 1913.
Here she is in about 1936.
