Plotting for a Food Garden week 18

This gets more laughable each week. The only things still growing in MY garden is 1 squash, 4 strawberries, seeding basil ('cause I don't know how to keep it), a few scrappy little onions, chives & that's it. Thank goodness for B & B who gave me a pumpkin, onions & chillie so I can make some soup (recipe here).

Happy 15th Birthday Brodie (I won't put a baby photo here).

Skywatch Season 4 Episode 29

The sky on Australia Day brought to you by LOTTO SKYWORKS.

Wonderful blue sky, ocean calm, perfect way to start the day. Unforturnatly spoilt by some selfish people who were casting a line or two into the lagoon. Just after this shot was taken one of the early swimmers got tangled up in their fishing line. They seem to think the Lagoon is for them & their dogs (not allowed in this area of the beach). Shame on you. Have some thought for others.

Lots more amazing skies found here.

True Colours Thursday - PUCE

Not an easy colour to find so this is as close as I can get. The glass vase holds a plant that creeps, not sure of the name. The image behind is 'Regeneration' one of my digital images, printed on canvas.
There are some more PUCES (that doesn't sound right!) on the True Colours page. Click here

Found this on the web:

THE PUCE POEM:

Oh what is the use
of the color named puce?
So often called mauve
But never chartreuse

Overlooked and ignored
Hardly every adored
It sits and it waits
All pointless and bored

Not magenta, not pink
Nor rose I would think
But something between
Not a shade, but a fink

Then a webmaster sage
While programing a page
He types 'CC8899'
To make puce all the rage

"I'm useful, I'm wanted!"
"I don't have to feel haunted!"
"For somebody needs me."
The happy puce flaunted

"What?!" The webmaster spits
"Is my screen having fits?"
"This color is vile, and not what I want"
And so 'delete', he then hits.

Talking 'bout Books

After the drama of this morning (didn't get back 'till 10am) I spent the rest of the day mooching around. I'm reading 'Let it Shine' by Josephine Cox, bit of a drag, so naff, think they used to call it 'Pegs Paper'. Having finished 'Coming Home' by Rosamund Pilcher I now have 'Going Home' by Harriet Evans. Also waiting on the desk is 'Suite Francais' by Irene Nemirovsky (on loan from a bookish friend), 'The Cat Who Looked at the Sky' by Thea Welsh and 'The Sound of One Hand Clapping' by Richard Flanagan ( 2nd hand books from the op shop $2 each).

Rescue

There we were, 8.30am, three not very good swimmers, up to our waists in the Lagoon talking about blogging - as one does. Not many people in the water, just two further down & one smaller one by the reef. Next thing we knew was a little voice calling - we thought - "I've found it, I've found it, come quick!" but really calling "I'm drowning, I'm drowning!" The mother, who was ankle deep with a very young child then yelled "Can anybody swim?" We took off at once but the current was strong. The kid was sitting & hanging onto the reef crying "Mummy, help, I'm drowning". By this time we could see the other two were in trouble. Not many people on the beach but thank goodness two strong men were swimming out to the two in trouble. We were struggling to reach the little one when another guy swam up with a blow up kick board, got him off the reef & back to shore. A bit of a crowd was gathering further down on the beach, an ambulance had arrived, then the life guards. Apparently the two others, father & son, were exhausted & the father was throwing up so he was taken to hospital. The family had never been to Yanchep Lagoon before. People don't realise how strong that current can get, it all looks so calm. Luckily there was no tragedy today.

Plotting for a Food Garden week 17

Pathetic!! A few almost ripe strawberries. Almost nothing in the so called garden to EAT. Down to the last of the Roma tomatoes, lettuce is very bitter, spring onions are still tiny even the Mizuna has had it. It all needs pulling up & digging over, new potting mix added & maybe I can seed some more salad. Put it down to the hot weather.

Fun in the Lagoon this morning. For a better pic click onto Yanchep Paradise.

Talking 'bout Books

What a great surname for a gardening book! I would have liked a few recipes but only got some tips on cooking. Nice to dip into.
At the moment I am ploughing my way through 'Coming Home' by Rosamund Pilcher, all 1016 pages, up to page 509, so halfway and enjoying it very much. An easy read especially as about all I've done today is lay in front of the fan with the temperature up to 32 deg (outside was at least 42. Just hope all these people on the beach didn't get too burnt. Photo taken 9.30 am.
