The Wednesday What's It

This week I decided to join Postcard Scavenger Hunt #6 – My Funniest Postcards. Go here to see more. Here are two I found among my 500 (or more)
This one from the US ‘An American Diner, St. Louis, Missouri’.

And this from a postxer in Italy.

While I’m in a joke mood how about this:

A cat dies and goes to Heaven.
God meets her at the gate and says: "You have been a good cat all these years. Anything you desire, all you have to do is ask"
The cat replied , "Well, I lived all my life with a family who made me sleep on hardwood floors"
God says, "Say no more."
And instantly a fluffy pillow appears.
A few days later, 6 mice are killed in a tragic accident and go to Heaven.
God meets them at the gate with the same offer He made the cat.
The mice said. "All our life we’ve had to run. We’ve been chased by cats, dogs, and even women with brooms. If we could only have a pair of roller skates, we wouldn’t have to run any more"
God responds, "Say no more."
And instantly, each mouse is fitted with a beautiful pair of tiny roller skates.
About a week later, God decides to check and see how the cat is.
She is sound asleep on her new pillow.
God gently nudges her awake and asks, "How are you doing? Are you happy here?"
The cat yawns and stretches and says. "Oh, I’ve never been happier in my life. And those meals on wheels you’ve been sending over are THE Best!"

Talking ‘bout BOOKS

‘The Amateur Marriage’ by Anne Tyler was a slow walk in the park compared to ‘A Piece of Cake’ by Cupcake Brown. Reading this is like racing alongside an express train, I get breathless just reading a few pages (292 out of 470).
Just must mention that I watched ‘Nottinghill’ (again!) and noticed (for the first time) that, at the very end of the movie when the camera pans in to the seat in the park, Hugh Grant is reading ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’.
On another note here is a page

from the

'SIXTIES source book'.
I haven't read any of these books. I wish I had been a few years younger in the sixties I'm sure I would have enjoyed it!

Saturdays Birds

No birds around today, unless I count the chicken that is roasting in the oven (which is why there is no photo!).However there are vegetables that will accompany the bird.

A couple of birds in the sunshine eating & drinking.

And now a moan: Yesterday the person living at my old address gave me a BIG pile of mail. They knew where I lived (just up the same road). Included were 3 postcards (thank you BJ from Pittsburgh, Wendzefx from Jamaica & B& B while they were in Queensland), a birthday card + stamps from C&B in Spain, 2 Traffic Infringement Notices (ultimately costing me just over $1000 for fines etc!) 3 renewal & final demands from Insurance (luckily they had phoned me when due), 5 demands for payment on gas bottles (had sorted this out with ex landlord last year) & some begging letters. Needless to say I was very pi**ed off! I did have my post redirected for 6 months & was sure I had notified everyone but must have missed the important ones, I sure have paid for my mistake.

The Wednesday What's It

Makes you wonder.....

Have to pass this next one on with thanks from my friend down the coast

Just in case you are having a rough day, here is a stress management
technique recommended in all the latest psychological journals. The
funny thing is that it really does work and will make you smile..

1. Picture yourself lying on your belly on a warm rock that
hangs out over a crystal clear stream.

2. Picture yourself with both your hands dangling in the cool
running water.

3. Birds are sweetly singing in the cool mountain air.

4. No one knows your secret place.

5. You are in total seclusion from that hectic place called the
world.

6. The soothing sound of a gentle water fall fills the air with
a cascade of serenity.

7. The water is so crystal clear that you can easily make out
the face of the person you are holding underwater.

There!! See? It really does work... You're smiling already. Feel free to forward this if you know others who might benefit from this technique.

Now here are some more to - hopefully - make you laugh

OLD FOLKS
Just before the funeral services, the undertaker came up to the very elderly widow and asked, "How old was your husband?" "98," she replied. "Two years older than me." "So you're 96," the undertaker commented. She responded, "Hardly worth going home, is it?

Reporters interviewing a 104-year-old woman: "And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?" the reporter asked. She simply replied, "No peer pressure."

The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs.

I've sure gotten old! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation hardly feel my hands & feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92; have lost all my friends. But, thank God, I still have my driver's license.

I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Know how to prevent sagging? Just eat till the wrinkles fill out.

It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffeemaker.

These days about half the stuff in my shopping cart says, “For fast relief".

Remember: You don't stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop laughing.

THE SENILITY PRAYER: Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Now, I think you're supposed to share this with 5 or 6, maybe 10 others. Oh heck, give it to a bunch of your friends if you can remember who they are!

And here is something else.........

A 70-year-old man walked into a crowded waiting room and approached the desk.
The Receptionist said, "Yes sir, what are you seeing the Doctor for today?"
"There's something wrong with my dick", he replied.
The receptionist became irritated and said, "You shouldn't come into a crowded waiting room and say things like that."
"Why not, you asked me what was wrong and I told you," he said.
The Receptionist replied; "Now you've caused some embarrassment in this room full of people."
"You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and discussed the problem further with the Doctor in private."
The man replied, "You shouldn't ask people questions in a roomful of strangers, if the answer could embarrass anyone."
The man walked out, waited several minutes, and then re-entered.
The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, "Yes??"
"There's something wrong with my ear," he stated.
The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice.
"And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?"
"I can't piss out of it," he replied.
The waiting room erupted in laughter.

Talking ‘bout BOOKS

Enjoyed ‘The Shifting Fog’ very much, in spite of it being a bit predictable. Tuesday Book Club was interesting, only five of us had finished ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’. On Friday I picked up from the library ‘ Lillians Story’ by Kate Grenville, ‘A Piece of Cake’ by Cupcake Brown, ‘The Amateur Marriage’ by Anne Tyler and ‘twelve principles’ by Martin Hawes.

Barry Humphries memoir has been waiting so patiently – have renewed twice – that I thought I had better start it right away. Interesting so far, talking about books, music & art.

Finally finished ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’ just in time for next Tuesday Book Club. It will be interesting to find out what the others thought of it, if indeed they managed to get anywhere near the end. I have just started ‘The Shifting Fog’ by Kate Morton, slightly sentimental but easy reading.

The Wednesday What's It

I would love the thank the person who sent me this card - unfortunately I can't read the signature! Anyone out there??? :~)

I was looking forward to my evening meal of roast chicken, potatoes, carrots & beetroot glazed with olive oil. I have just dropped it on the tiled floor & it's gone slithering all over the place with the dish in many pieces! :~(
That's life when you try to do too many things at once.

Talking ‘bout BOOKS

Good night Frank, thanks for the memories.

Still wading through ‘Captain C’ do wish I could hurry up & finish it! Methinks he uses an excessive quantity of elongated vocabulary ie: too many long words.
And then I arrived at page 356 where the good doctor explains that “ we all use every long word that we know as often as we possibly can, …”.
I started to look some of them up in the dictionary but gave up very quickly as it was taking up too much time (I guess I’m not as intelligent as I thought!) I will see it through to the end & then maybe get the DVD out.
Other books I am wanting to read are –
‘Gardening in your Nightie’ by Helen Yemm,

‘Vegemite Vindaloo’ by David McMahon his blog

‘Winds of War’ by Herman Wouk
